The MT 43 Pro Trials Tire from Pirelli is a trials type tire with a great balance between performance, price, and a long tread life. The MT 43’s main feature is a unique tread pattern geometry that helps the tire find a good amount of grip on wet, dry, or hard technical terrain. It’s also DOT approved so getting from one trail to another on public streets won’t be a problem and your tire won’t get chewed up or worn out doing it.

To create this resilience, the tire uses a reinforced bias ply construction that makes the tire deform less while still giving it a wide contact patch. This makes the Pirelli MT 43 Pro Trials Tire a solid choice for experienced technical riders wanting pure performance and other riders that want to experiment and see if a trials tire will work for them.

    Specs:
  • For technical trail and trials-type riding
  • Good performance on hard, wet, or dry terrain
  • Great for indoor events
  • Reinforced bias-ply carcass reduces deformation and maximizes footprint
  • Unique tread pattern geometry complements construction and application
  • DOT Compliant

Makes a tall bike taller
I didn't think about aspect ratio when I got this for my WR 250R that was already too tall for me. It raised the seat another inch or two compared to the bald Goldentyre it replaced. Other than that, the traction and wear were pretty good for such a tight tread pattern.

Great in all conditions - even snow!
I'm always amazed at how well this tire hooks up. Even snow and mud are not a problem as long as you maintain a consistent speed going through. It really shines in the rocks and roots and seams to stick better when wet. I've run it on a KTM 400, 520 and 525 as well as a 250XC 2 stroke and a Honda XR650L and will never go back to a knobby. As far as tread life goes, it doesn't really matter because they stick just as well when practically bald. It's also a DOT approved tire.

Desert Use
I used the tire in Spangler Hills Ca. Turkey day weekend. The tire hooks up great in the desert. Can't tell you about mud. I ran 9 PSI and it just hooked up in the sand washes, rocks and hard rock faces. About 120 miles and the nubs are still showing.

The knobby my kid was using was down about 1/4 of the tred

Great Dual Sport Tire
Great Dual Sport tire! These things last forever, got over 2000 brutal miles on the last one, looked like heck when I changed it, but still could have gone a few hundred more miles. Works pretty well in just about any conditions, EXCEPT SNOW!

seems good
Put this on my 70s enduro street bike for authentic look. Haven't used in rain but don't intend to. No issues with sliding or fear of losing traction.

Plenty Good!
I wasn't sure how I wanted to go when it came to selecting tires for dual sport so I went with these. As with anything no matter the cost, there are pros and cons. I have them on a 250X and seem to do a fine job for what they are. One tip, BALANCE THEM! They are 100 times better on the road. If they have a red or yellow dot on the sidewall, line it up with your bead lock and fine tune after. The only real con of them is mounting, both the front and rear seamed awfully small even with a tire machine. Comparably, they handle better on the road than the dirt. You most certainly wont be motocrossing them but will handle a fire trail or a rocky road with no complaints.

Pirelli MT 43 Favorite dual sport tire!
I put a pair on my 1992 XR250L at the beginning of the 2016 season. Got 2500 out of the rear and the front still looks good. Work great on the street. The ride is stable and they have more grip than expected. They handle everything but deep mud with ease when at Wicomico Motorsports Park in southern MD. Not great for squirt and slide type of riders. A serious trail tire that does great on slick hard pack, roots and rutted rocky trails and then jump on the street and head home.

What is the center knob height/tread depth on a new mt43 400/18?
A shopper on Sep 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The center knob tread depth is 11.5mm.
I am grateful that I have gotten a lot of answers about this tire using “tubeless/tubeliss “ at all in the back on my Trials bike for long adventures but I believe the riders that answered misunderstood ? A Trials bike rear tire is entirely tubeless not tubeliss. Air only. Not an insert. Nothing in there. My dual sport friends have tubeliss systems and never get pictures. I’m looking for answers whether this tire or the Kendal equilibrium Tire or any particular knobby tire can be put on my Beta 300SS that has a long range tank on it totaling 2 gallons. I do not want to use my Michelin trials tire as it is a true trials tire and would wear out rather quickly.
A tire set up similar to an ATV tire or car tire inside? Thank you?
RAY C on Jan 3, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Well I guess I am a bit confused.. are you saying there are no tubes in a Trials tire?

All I can tell you is I have ran this tire on the rear my KTM 450 EXC and WR250R with a tube and typically at pressures no less than 14 psi. Normally in the 16 to 18 psi range and possibly 20 psi if I knew I was going to be on pavement for a bit.

When I was running this tire I typically would pair it with a XCMS front tire and use the bike for some commuting and DS/ADV type rides. It performed we on hard and rocky surfaces but mud could be a problem if you didn't pick the right line.. which usually involved minimizing your contact with it.
Can this tire be used on the back of a Trials bike TUBELESS keeping in mind I have had this tire on 2 KTM’s and they worked great but those bikes had tubes in them?
RAY C on Jan 2, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hi, I use this tire on my motorcycle with the tubliss system, so I know that it works with it. In the instructions for the tubliss system, it says to only use the system with brand new tires, or else the tire might leak air. I've used the tubliss system with used tires and haven't had a problem with leakage. Your results may, or may not be the same. I think it depends upon how clean and un-damaged the tire bead is.
what size tube should be used (if any- someone said it is tubeless) on the Pirelli MT 43 rear tire 4.00?
A shopper on May 10, 2018
BEST ANSWER: i just use my stock 18" tube , the sidewalls are soft on these and tall so changing tubes is usually easier also
2014 Ktm EXC 500, will this tire fit? Spec size is 140/80 18 for the rear.

Thx
Bryan W on Oct 3, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately these will not fit. The size 140/80-18 converts to 5.60x18.
