Details

The Tusk Recon Hybrid® rear tire combines the benefits of a soft, sticky trials tire with an off-road/motocross tire for optimal performance for single track and technical enduro use. The soft, gummy rubber compound on the rear tire hooks up and conforms to rocks and roots like a trials tire, but has a motocross inspired tread design to perform better in mud, sand, and aggressive cornering and braking. Another Hybrid feature is in the carcass; it is much softer than a standard off-road/motocross tire, but handles better than a trials tire to offer ideal impact absorption, traction, and protection through gnarly, technical terrain. The front has a stiffer rubber compound to ensure a strong bite in corners, but has a "Fat" oversized shape to absorb rocks and roots. The Recon hybrid® tires instill confidence in even the most technical conditions.
  • High-performance off-road Hybrid tire designed for technical single track and extreme enduro riding.

Tusk Recon Hybrid
Just purchased the Recon, it arrived on time as always. Mounting up the tire was a breeze! I wish all tires mounted up like this one. Took it out for first ride in sandy conditions, single track, it did really well. Also spent some time on a sandy MX track, it held it’s own there too. Only the first ride, so will need a few more rides in different conditions to fully rate the tire. Our conditions are typically soft to intermediate, with plenty of roots and rocks.

The perfect tire?
Do you like to ride,, everything? I mean, in one day is it possible you could ride every type of off road surface, some sand, some mud, plenty of rocks, hard pack, loam, and some roots just for fun? Do you like saving money? You can not come close to the amount of performance per dollar a Recon has to offer. Is it as good as the tire that cost 2x as much .. pretty dang close! By two Recons and smile 2x more! Another Tusk victory!

A great tire at a great price
Similar to a Shinko 505 Cheater but a wider and a slightly harder compound. Only ridden a couple of times but the performance is at least a good as the Shinko and the wear seems to be slightly better. It's only slightly less expensive than the Shinko but with that said it is an excellent tire for gnarly terrain, most at home on rocks but seems to work well in most other conditions.

Great grip!
This is a great value tire. Has great traction and minimal roll in corners. Im using with a nitromousse (larger of the 18 in size). Love the grip on rocks and technical climbs.

Possible ibex replacement.
Awesome tire. I normally run the Kenda ibex. This is certainly a good replacement. It’s slightly stiffer than the ibex which makes it great for higher speed, harder terrain. It lasts longer than the ibex as well. It still does great in the rocks and the slippery stuff.

Perfect trail tire
Running the Recon with a TuBliss @ 7psi. The tire doesn't look like anything special, but it is when you're riding on it. The Tusk Recon just works. Here in New England we have varied conditions, no matter if its sand, loom, rocks, wet rock, mud or deeper mud the tire does its job. I have about 10 hard hours at this point and there's very little wear. Great ride and handling too... :D This is going to be my go to rear tire.

Great Tire
After two rides not a ton of wear unsure about how long it will last. I have been riding on sandy terrain with roots and it grips surprisingly well. I was expecting this tire to perform best on rocky terrain and it has surprised me on my last few rides.

Can you use these with tubliss? Many off-road tires have ribs inside the tire making it difficult or impossible for the tubliss to seal.
Dan on Aug 19, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes, I installed with TUBLISS and it works great. At 8 PSI it had great traction and the sidewalls held their structure well.

Shinko R525 Hybrid Cheater Tire
BEST ANSWER: If you’re bike barely fits a 120 shinko 525, do not get the 120 recon, it’s about the width/height of most 140’, go with the 110, I wish I had.
When are the front tires going to be available?
DEAN T on Dec 19, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The fronts will be available for purchase soon.
Is this a DOT compliant?
Ian S on Aug 17, 2019
BEST ANSWER: It is not. For optimal off-road performance we chose not to get a DOT rating. A DOT rating will require a stiffer carcass and would hurt the off-road performance.
How strong is the side wall. Can you run lower air pressure. Will it run flat?
Curt S on Oct 28, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The tire is amazing hooks almost anywhere. I’ve had it at 5psi with heavy tube. But normally run it around 9-11psi depending on conditions. I will definitely be buying again. And the wear is pretty amazing also.
So I ride Nevada desert. So I have sand, gnarly rocks, gravel, all that. I also use the road to get to trails. Would this be a good tire to run on my yz250?
Dominick J on Apr 18, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I ride AZ trails mostly so plenty of rocks, sand and more rocks. I don't know if these are DOT rated tires since I rarely touch asphalt. I bought it because it was on sale but honestly I wish I had bought 3 more at the time. I use it on my CRF250X and it has been great. Very soft compound so it grips the rocks very well and knows are barely showing any wear. I am running Tubliss at 10 psi so it helps as well. They do seem heavy but I got the larger 120 size so it is expected. AZ rocks are bad on harder compounds. I would certainly recommend you give them a try.
My bike comes factory with a 100/100-18. Is it okay to go up to the 110/100-18 for this tire?
Elijah G on Feb 3, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I ride trails. I have the recon in the 120-100-18 and it’s been a great tire. I have five bikes in the garage and three have this tire on them.
So I ride Nevada rocky, sandy desert. I do not really ride motocross tracks. Which tire would be best for me ? I Sometimes ride on the road to get to trails. im thinking the kenda is best ? yz250

Kenda K760 Trakmaster II Rear Tire
Kenda K760 Trakmaster II Rear Tire
BEST ANSWER: I have been using the Kenda K760 from version 1 to version 2 for over 80,000 miles on a Honda XR250 dual sport. Both front and rear tires. They are durable and work in sand, mud, slick roots, rocks, pavement, gravel. I have run them from Mojave sand washes to Oregon rain forest single track. It is my go to tire. They don't chunk knobs like version one did, give good longevity, are street legal, and have stiff sidewalls allowing you to run lower pressures. I also have them on my Honda TRL 200 Reflex Street Legal trials bike, and my Sur Ron electric trail bike, and my Honda CT 90.
So Vegas Romaniac has a pretty negative review on this tire, and states it changed the gearing on his bike in a bad way because the diameter is so much larger (120 / 18 tire) than other tires.... he demonstrates this with a string measures the diameter vs. other popular tires... can anyone else share feedback? any found the 110/ 18 to be too larger in diameter also
Douglas D on Oct 19, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I stuffed this tire ( with a Nitro mousse) into my '19 Kawasaki KLX140G play bike and and entered an event in New Hampshire. The 4.5 mile course was was all single track with slippery roots, rocks, and leaves. It was full of tight corners and short steep climbs and descents. I thought the tire worked awesome, particularly on the leafy root climbs, but I never got out of third gear! I never noticed it to effect the gearing.
Will this tire fit a 2013 CRF 250R? Or will it be too wide
ANDY H on Oct 19, 2019
BEST ANSWER: If you have enough room to put a 110 wide tire on your bike it will work, I know the width on your bike is a 100 . I can tell you this much it fits like a motocross style tire it’s not like a balloon like most trials tire and it does hook up. I’m happy with the tire for the short time of owning it.
If my tire is 140/80-18, is the 110/110-18 is okay for my bike ?
A shopper on Feb 21, 2020
BEST ANSWER: So the real question is what kind of riding are you doing this is an all around awesome tire for rocks, roots and tough Enduro
the numbers before the rim size indicates the width and heights not the circumference

so yes in short the tires will fit !!

Ride on !!
width of the 110 90 19?
A shopper on Oct 29, 2019
BEST ANSWER: From what I have from side knob to side knob is about 14 cm. Sidewall to sidewall is about 12cm and 4.5 cm tall. Keep in mind I have riden with tubliss with low pressures so it has flattened it self out.
