Works great, small and light, perfect for trail bag (get a couple).
I've been carrying a full sized steel bead buddy in my trail bag, but I got one of these just to test it out. Did a couple tire changes this weekend in the shop getting ready for a big trip and it worked great. Think I'll get at couple more. Three of these will still weigh less than one steel one and take up the same if not less room in my trail bag. I saw someone complaining about the "plastic" screw stripping out.... Well it's not cheap plastic, it's Delrin (very hard, self-lubricating plastic) and as long as you just tighten it enough to snug the tool up against the rim you've got exactly zero chance of stripping it. Seriously, you just tighten it enough to keep it in place. You don't need to go all ham-fist gorilla force on it...sheesh... Any way. Quite pleased with this little guy.
The screw knob is plastic. This is great for not scratching up a rim, but it broke during my second time using it. I replaced it with a brass one. The first tire change was in the parking lot at work... fantastic. The second was at a tech day out of state. Either the knob failed, or I failed the knob, either way, the device was useless. The aluminum is fantastic, but the plastic? Not so much.
Again, it could have been me putting too much side pressure on the screw knob... but yeah... it broke.
This is my first tire change in over 20 years, and the first with a tool of this type so I don't have anything to compare it to. It worked well for me changing the stock Bridgestone dual sport tire for a Dunlop D606 on my DR650. I haven't tried the tire iron under the brake disk trick, so you'll have to decide if one of these would suit you or not.
