    Details

When one of the best gets better, you'll ride with more confidence - rain or shine, hot or cold, city or highway. With its new XST Evo sipes, which widen as the tire wears, MICHELIN Road 5 tires offer effective water evacuation throughout the life of the tire. The new compounds are specially formulated to provide excellent grip on a wide range of road surfaces, including painted lines and pedestrian crossings, making it easier for you to ride with confidence in virtually all conditions.
    • A USED Road 5 tire with more than 3,000 miles of wear stops as short as a BRAND NEW Pilot Road 4 tire on a water soaked road thanks to the revolutionary patented MICHELIN XST Evo water drop sipes, which grow wider mile after mile.
      - Based on internal wet braking testing comparing new MICHELIN® Pilot® Road 4 tires and worn (3,502 miles) MICHELIN Road 5 tires in tire sizes 120/70 ZR 17 (front) and 180/55 ZR17 (rear) on a 2013 Suzuki® Bandit 1250S, conducted in 2016 in Ladoux, France. Actual results may vary.
    • Improved dry grip, stability and handling compared to MICHELIN Pilot Road 4 tires thanks to Michelin’s patented ACT+ casing technology and the 2CT+ dual compound technology.
      - Based on third party commissioned tests comparing MICHELIN® Road 5 tires with MICHELIN Pilot® Road 4 tires in tire sizes 120/70 ZR 17 (front) and 180/55 ZR17 (rear) using a 2017 Kawasaki® Z900 conducted by MTE Test Center in Stuttgart, Germany. Actual results may vary.

Wife says they're great on her BMW R1200R
Prior to these, she had been using Michelin Pilot Road 4's since they introduced tham, and before that PR2's. I didn't like the PR3's on my BMW K1200GT - felt like riding on sand when on the edge of the tread (PR3's), so never bought those for the wife's bikes. We went from PR2 to PR4 and have been very happy with them and now the PR5's are great too. While I am a Michelin fan-boy (bikes and cars and trucks), on the BMW R1200GS, I use Metzler 'Tourance' (not the "NEXT" version - those suck).

    Rubber for the twisties
By advice of some in the know running a slightly smaller diameter tire in front. Nice new sticky compound for us mortals.

Good tire but wears down faster than a Road 4
In twisty riding, it is wearing faster than the Road 4 as it wears down 1/32" for every 400 miles. Thus, about 3000 miles or less to the wear bars.

Very good riding tire. Handles eel but first ride was not a lot of curvey roads. Future will hopefully tell the other story.
