The Michelin StarCross 5 Medium Terrain Tire is an excellent all-around tire for the track and trail, one that distinguishes itself with great performance and a couple pieces of new tire technology.

Like other StarCross 5 tires, the Medium Terrain’s casing is made with high-density materials that actually reduces overall weight by 15%. Plus, the casing is made with Comfort Case Technology (CCT) that gives the tire a very plush feeling as you ride.

Topping everything off, Michelin gives the StarCross 5 Medium Terrain a tread pattern that grips firmly and slides predictably on a wide range of terrain. Large center blocks give straight line performance, numerous side lugs stick in while cornering, and the rubber compound manages to perform on most everything between loose loam and hard bedrock.

    Specs:
  • Casing incorporates high density materials that reduce weight up to 15% while retaining strength and durability
  • Casing features Comfort Casing Technology (CCT), which provides exceptional shock absorption that reduces rider fatigue
  • Casing is engineered to optimize the size of the tire’s contact patch, offering maximum levels of grip for precise steering and traction, even in difficult conditions
  • Aggressive front and rear tread patterns are specially designed for the StarCross 5 and improve performance across several applications
  • Intermediate and side tread blocks ensure good steering response from the front tire and traction from the rear
  • Central blocks are designed specifically to enhance braking performance and traction on all types of riding surfaces
  • Self-cleaning tread design with fine horizontal tread lines releases soil and enhances traction in a range of different conditions

Great all around tire
My favorite tire. Hook up well, very stable and predictable. Wear seems good, haven't had any chunking from rocks or hard pack (AT81 on same bike/ conditions was losing knobs).

Tire is great everywhere, add a TUBLISS and it is incredible. Traction is good in everything from light mud, to hard granite rocks. Self-cleans pretty well. The 90/100 size is great at soaking up the little hard-edged trail junk.

Star cross
Best tire since a Bridgestone 404.Good in all terrain. The bead does stretch more than other tires so mounting with irons really isn't that big a deal.

Best tire
This tire is my favorite. I am a b rider/racer. This tire tools up well in all conditions for me and it seems to outlast other brands such as Dunlop by far. I’ll never buy another Dunlop.

The tire is narrower than Dunlop Geomax but it outperforms the Geomax in muddy enduro rides. After two long rides cant tell any major wear only time will tell how it will hold up.

Good quality
Good all round tire for a fair price. I race both sand and slight hardpack throughout the season and these tires always hold up pretty well.

My bike stock runs an 80/100 21 would I be correct in thinking a 90/100 21 would be wider and fit fine?
Brandon D on Mar 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You will have more surface area. Just buy the matching tube. I think the starcross 5 are some of the best tires I have ran. Good luck.
Is this a tubeless tire?
A shopper on Sep 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No. Says Tube Type on tire
Is this tire DOT?
Keith S on Aug 14, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It does not list that it is DOT approved on the sidewall of the tire. I ride in dry rocky conditions and have wore out at least 5 of these tires. The hold up well and last a long time with our chunking the side knobs. I do not ride on pavement except on short connectors to single track trails. It works good on wet rocks. MOST important is to keep the bike as vertical as possible on hard surfaces like road racers do. Lean your body into the corners first as much as possible then bring the bike down as needed.
My stock size is a 90/90-21. Would I be best going with the 80/100-21 or the 90/100-21?
Everett K on May 27, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The 90/100/21 will be the closest to your stock size. It will have a little bit taller side wall. The 80/100/21 will be a narrower and taller tire.
How does the compound feels? Soft or hard? Is it sgicky on dry rocks or tend to spin?
Arik Y on Oct 6, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It was a great front tire with a medium compound. With the right air pressure it stuck well in dry rocks.
