Details

The Michelin StarCross 5 tires were designed based on feedback from riders of all levels, from amateurs to world champions, often riding in extreme conditions, who shared their experiences in the field with Michelin Motorsports and Michelin’s world-class research and development team. The Michelin StarCross 5 range breaks new ground for Michelin in the world of Off-Road/Motocross tires. Compared to its predecessors (Michelin StarCross 3/4), the Michelin StarCross 5 line is based on a casing design that delivers several significant performance improvements.
  • The Michelin StarCross 5 Soft rear tire features "Mud-Phobic Bars", which also enhance tire cleaning to prevent soil from building up and reducing traction.
  • The casing design incorporates stronger, higher density materials that reduce weight up to 15 percent without compromising strength or durability. The casing construction also features Michelin’s Comfort Casing Technology (CCT), which provides exceptional shock absorption that reduces rider fatigue.
  • The casing design has been engineered to optimize the size of the tire’s contact patch. Combined with aggressive front and rear tread patterns, specially designed for each tire in the range, this construction offers maximum levels of grip for precise steering and traction, even in the most difficult conditions.
  • Tread designs for the Michelin StarCross 5 range of tires improve performance across a multitude of applications. The intermediate and side tread blocks ensure good steering response from the front tire and traction from the rear. The central blocks are designed specifically to enhance braking performance and traction on all types of riding surfaces.
  • The Michelin StarCross 5 line sports a self-cleaning tread design to help release soil from the tire. The design includes revolutionary fine horizontal tread lines to release soil and enhance traction in a range of different soil conditions.

Awesome
I ride sand. Beach sand, packed sand, and some gravel. These tires are awesome. Great traction, braking and acceleration. I would use these as the benchmark for comparison.

Great tire!!
I live in sandy Michigan and this tire is considered top dawg around here!! Perfect tire for Enduros when matched with tubeless. You get consistent feel in the woods and great durability in the transfer sections!! Get yourself a knobby knife and you’ll easily get a full season out of these tires!

Best front tire ever
Primarily riding in the rocky rooty rutted rough terrain of the
Oregon Coast range I have not found a better 90/100-21 front tire
for my KTMs, 500 class four stroke or 250 class two stroke.
I pair this tire with a 130/80-18, IRC M5B evo and I am climbing or descending the steepest hills you can imagine !
Thank you guys for having the best prices and fastest
shipping, maybe the fourth or fifth time i have purchased
these tires from Rocky Mountain Atv and will continue long into the future. Thanks again, Jess

Michelin Starcross 5 soft terrain
Have this tire on my 450SXF and ride SoCal tracks. It works great in the soft loose loam and sand. Cornering is predictable even when they start to show some wear.

Most SoCal tracks have a clay mix and become harder in the afternoon. These tire make a good transition from the morning soft, to the mid-day loam to the afternoon hard pack. They don't work as well on the hard pack but still performed surprisingly well.

Wear seems to be on a par with most soft terrain tires and probably better than most. I have right at 7 hours on these tires and they are still looking very good with the leading edge worn a little bit because of it spinning on the hard pack.

STARCROSS soft
Front tire amazing. Rear tire seems very comparable to MX3s... I did notice the width of the star cross is about 1/4 -1/2 inch narrower than the mx32 at the edge nobby width.

How is the front tire on roots? Any chunking?
David S on Feb 19, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I've been running this tire since it come out and replaced the s12 . So far it hooks great everywhere here in the hills of WV . No chunking that I've seen. The only thing I kinda don't like it wants to climb out of ruts but I can deal with that since it stays put everywhere else. Wears good also.
Does this tire work with tubeless systems?
John C on Nov 13, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I've been using these for 2 years with the Nuetech Tubliss setup & sealant and never had any problems.
Nuetech Tubliss Gen 2.0 (Tubeless) Tire System
Nuetech Tubliss Gen 2.0 (Tubeless) Tire System
Did they change the size chart I'm looking for a 90/90/21 and 130/ 18 in the starcross 5's ? This is size I ran in the m12 and s12
A shopper on Apr 15, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The 21 that is closest to your 90/90x21 would be the100/90x21...I believe I heard some complaints of the tire knifing in sand corners and the 100/90 is about 3/8" wider. Most 450 4t are running the 120/80x18( some 300 2t's are running them also) Had customer put that on his KTM 250 2 stroke and didn't like it, went to the 110/100X18 and loved it. Don't know if this helps but good luck...these are damn good tires
What is the difference between the s12 and the ms5 front tires? I've ran the s12 for years. Great great tire. Was thinking about trying the ms5.
LUCAS G on Jul 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The tread patterns are nearly identical. The difference being, the ms5 is made with a softer compound. It grips much better than the s12 on wet logs and roots, slick rock and hardpack but It does wear a little faster.
IMO the s12 is good but ms5 is much better.
