If you love the feel and traction of a trials tire, the Michelin Trial X Light Tire is a great choice as it focuses and improves on everything a trial tire should be. Micheline has reduced the tire’s overall weight by more than a pound but at the same time they’ve stiffened up the sidewalls and made the tread area more flexible.

That means the Trial X Light is easier to maneuver, great a t maximizing the contact patch, and has more stability on the rim and when cornering. So if you’re willing to move a step in price, you’ll be rewarded with an exceptionally grippy tire that’s great at finding traction in slow, technical terrain.

    Specs:
  • More than a pound lighter than its predecessor, for improved suspension response and maneuverability
  • Updated casing design improves lateral stability in corners compared with earlier Michelin trials tires
  • Rigid sidewalls reduce tire movement on the rim, even at very low pressure
  • Redesigned Trial X Competition casing is more flexible, for a larger contact patch and improved traction
  • More flexible tread area for better grip on obstacles and rocks
  • Not legal for highway use

Frustrating install if trying to go tubeless.
Its a so-so tire. Installing it on a tubeless rim was a nightmare.

This is because the two beads stick together instead of splitting apart, so they are impossible to actually seat on the rim with no inner tube. I tried everything to get the darn thing to inflate. I even used the ether and match trick. I tied a rope around the outside of the wheel to pressure the beads and that didn’t work either. I was using a high-pressure compressor, by the way, and nothing worked. Even hyperinflating a tube inside the tire overnight, but the next morning the beads just came together again as if magnetized. Very frustrating. Get this: I inserted a tube with the valve sticking out the bead and inflated it so at least one bead would seat, and then did the rope trick again, to no final avail. I finally capitulated and ordered the “Beader”. I personally don’t like that brand but they were the only ones selling one. So I waited a week to receive the Beader. Even with that tool it was really hard to get the thing to finally fully seat on the rim. Wish the manufacturer shipped it with bead spacers like Goldentyre does. Its held now that its on and I lowered the pressure to 5 PSI. So, be forwarned with this tire. You may have to use an inner tube or a beader.
Using bead buddies & tube (see air valve sticking out of the bead?). Only one bead got seated tho.
Using the rope trick to no avail. Note the ratcheting tie down was combined with rope & tourniquets

Why I now buy the good stuff.
Best Trials tire money can buy, and as a additional benefit, you can Actually Install this tire during a race without having you workshop of tools with you. I lost an entire day trying to get the other popular cheaper tire to get seated on bead, because I had no high pressure air at the races with me. Put this tire on with a red hand pump, is the savings of $50.00 with a DNF.

Expensive but worth it for competition
If you are serious about trials and want the best, this is it. Especially in colder or wet conditions, this Tire out performs the Dunlop.
It does have a softer sidewall than the Dunlop, so if you are heavier or have a heavier bike, the Dunlop may be the better choice.

"More than a pound lighter than its predecessor"
If you use this tire in single-track, carry a plug kit.

I see the positive reviews from trials guys. Hopefully they are reviewing the "new lighter version" and not the old version from last year. They puncture and pinch toooooo easily now!!

They were always expensive, but worth it. Not now. Michelin ruined a great tire. The old one gripped, and was bulletproof.

Best trials tire
Michelin makes the best trials tire, period. I run these in the mountains and they are super sticky and grippy. they cost a lot, but they last and work well.
