Don’t get left in the pits with a broken chain. Motion Pro’s PBR Chain Breaker gives you a tool that does everything you need to get a chain on or off in one simple package.

What makes the PBR tool a necessity is its unique ability to remove pins, rivet pins, and press plates all using the same tool. The PBR tool is made of heat-treated steel and uses a series of modular dies that can be interchanged to either press, rivet, or remove components of your drive chain. The dies or "anvils" use an intuitive positioning system that ensures setting up and using the tool will be hassle free. To make things even easier the PBR tool can either be held in your hand or clamped in a vise depending on what’s most comfortable for you. The tool comes in a compact, plastic storage case that’s great for throwing in a tool box or riding pack, and if you choose not to use the box, all the dies stack up and secure into the tool itself for quick storage.

It’s hard to match the versatility you get with the Motion Pro PBR Chain Breaker. It doesn’t matter if you need to press, break, or remove the chain on one or all your bikes, the PBR Chain Breaker can do it all.

    Specs:
  • Works with 520, 525, 530 size chains
  • Works with hollow and soft nosed pins
  • Works with O-ring and non-O-ring chains
  • Uses interchangeable anvil blocks
  • Made of durable heat-treated steel
  • Includes plastic storage case
  • All parts can be stored on tool
  • Includes spare pin

Motion Pro PBR Chain Breaker
A little pricey but has everything you need to work on master link, hollow and solid riveted chains. Though the holding arm was a little to short and found it hard to have enough leverage to hold it in my hands while breaking the chain. Ended positioning it in a place that rests on the swingarm to support it.

Burly, well built tool. Also included the square head riveting die.
I've done a bunch of chains for myself and others since I bought this tool. Good build quality on the tool and parts. If you see reviews of people breaking pins and galling threads...just ignore them. 99.999999% of those people didn't take the tool apart when they got it an apply grease to all the threaded parts. This tool can be put under enormous pressure when in use. Any screw that is put under high pressure during work needs to be greased. Tool works flawlessly. Another tip is if you are breaking a riveted link, since you're gonna have to replace it any way, grind down the pin heads flush with the side plate before you try to press the pins out. This takes pretty much all the stress off the tool's pin driver because you're not having to push a mushroomed pin down through a smaller hole. Only takes about 10 seconds with a grinder to grind each those mushroomed chain pins down flush with the side plate. The storage box is well made and compact enough to be able to take with you on a trip if you really wanted.

Great tool package was broken
Tool is great. Exactly what I was expecting. Minor hassle with the plastic box. It was shipped roughly and the plastic box was broken. Had to return the product to get a new one. Waiting to see if it will arrive safely.

Not great for rivet links
I bought this with the intention of installing Rivet Mater Links on a 520 chain. This tool does install the rivet links, but its very easy to mess it up. This tool does a great job of driving pins to shorten a chain, and it great for pressing a link together, but the riveting function is not ideal.
I ended up buying the DID Chain Rivet tool and its very simple to use and almost impossible to mess up.

This is the one
This works flawlessly in any of the operations listed in the description. Its solid and well made to last. A little weighty to pack for road trip but at least you know you could easily make chain repair trail or road side.

How is this tool different than the other Motion Pro tool Part# 1177150001? Do they both break, rivet, and clamp all chain?
Brett P on Jan 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The PBR tool is an "all in one tool" and is capable of breaking and riveting #530 motorcycle chains. I can't speak of the other part number mentioned, However very satisfied with this tool.
How does the Motion Pro PBR tool differ from the Jumbo Chain Tool, and is it made in the USA?
Robert B on Mar 7, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I have used this tool on both the 520 and the 525 chain. It works really well and is easy to use. After using it over 20 times over the last year, it shows no signs of ware. It should last for ever... The Jumbo Chain Tool is the one you need if you are getting up into the larger 600 series chains. If not, go with the PBR. Motion Pro has never failed to impress me on quality and the wide range of tools they provide.
