Details

The Michelin StarCross 5 tires were designed based on feedback from riders of all levels, from amateurs to world champions, often riding in extreme conditions, who shared their experiences in the field with Michelin Motorsports and Michelin’s world-class research and development team. The Michelin StarCross 5 range breaks new ground for Michelin in the world of Off-Road/Motocross tires. Compared to its predecessors (Michelin StarCross 3/4), the Michelin StarCross 5 line is based on a casing design that delivers several significant performance improvements.
  • The casing design incorporates stronger, higher density materials that reduce weight up to 15 percent without compromising strength or durability. The casing construction also features Michelin’s Comfort Casing Technology (CCT), which provides exceptional shock absorption that reduces rider fatigue.
  • The casing design has been engineered to optimize the size of the tire’s contact patch. Combined with aggressive front and rear tread patterns, specially designed for each tire in the range, this construction offers maximum levels of grip for precise steering and traction, even in the most difficult conditions.
  • Tread designs for the Michelin StarCross 5 range of tires improve performance across a multitude of applications. The intermediate and side tread blocks ensure good steering response from the front tire and traction from the rear. The central blocks are designed specifically to enhance braking performance and traction on all types of riding surfaces.
  • The Michelin StarCross 5 line sports a self-cleaning tread design to help release soil from the tire. The design includes revolutionary fine horizontal tread lines to release soil and enhance traction in a range of different soil conditions.

Hard terrain tire
I bought this for Western CO and Easter UT riding on my 250F. I think it is too stiff and hard of a tire for that small of a bike. It seems to drift a bit in the corners and never really gave me any confidence when turning. Would probably be better on a larger displacement / heavier bike. Wears very well however.

The knobs do not chunk easily.
I ride in a lot of boulders in Arizona and Montana mountains.
This tire is consistent on corners and in boulders.
If the front tire has hard knobs they chunk off quickly. If the knobs are to soft they bend over and the front wheel will washout on corners and slip off the edge of boulders when you do not center punch the boulder.
Most of my riding buddies are using this tire now. I have been using this model tire for 5 years and they last Great without chunking for many hours and when they do start to chunk the chunks are small.

Great all around tire
I am very happy with the way this tire handles on hard pack fire roads and in the sand.It seems to be wearing very well after 600 miles of dirt and 40 miles of pavement. I run tubeless and have had no issues with it holding air. It has even been plugged once and is still going strong. I run between 8 and 12 P.S.I.

Good for colorado terrain
Works well in colorado terrain. Works in deep pea gravel/sand and even snow. Would stick to everything wet except roots. 90/100 size floats pretty well in sand.

This tire changed my life
Love this tire. I ride rocks, roots, and hard packed dirt. When it rains it's like riding a greasy cement floor with softballs and basketballs all over. This thing grips like no other i have used. I am extremely impressed with this tire, it's kept me upright for quite some time now.

Michelin starcross5 medium terrain tires
I would highly recommend this tire for off-road riding in the Rocky Mountains. I'm currently on my 2nd set. The grip in gnarly conditions is phenomenal. I've been flogging them relentlessly on one particular rocky hill climb and they take the punishment.

Would the Michelin star cross 5 hard be good for ice racing? I use 11/4 inch kold kutter screws with a liner. Any input would be appreciated.
roy s on Oct 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The StarCross 5 is made of a soft rubber compound so it could grip pretty well on hard or slick surfaces.
